We are on Facebook now. Visit us at Greater Milwaukee Knitting Guild. The Greater Milwaukee Knitting Guild is open to anyone interested in knitting at any level. Our mission is to promote interest, appreciation, and skill in knitting. The Meetings are always the second Tuesday of every month except January and August. Social Hour begins at 6:15 pm. Our “Knitting Doctors” are also available at that time for advice and consultation on your knitting problems. GMKG Newsletter- AUG 09

A Message from The Treasurer Joanie C
Here's the information on GMKG trip to Stitches.
Saturday, Sept. 12th $30.00 per person. This includes bus and entrance to Stitches.
Bus leaves from three different stops.
1. 8:00am leaves Watertown Plank Rd park and ride. Please be there 10 minutes
before , to load onto bus.
2. 8:30am leaves Ryan Rd park and ride. Please be there 10 minutes before to load.
3. 9:00am this is a rest stop at the McDonalds on hwy 20 in Racine.
Get your caffeine on and use the ladies room.
We should arrive at Stitches at 10:00, right when it opens. Shop and
lunch at your leisure. You can buy there or bring your own.
Leave from the conference center at 4:00pm. Stops are in reverse. If
no one boards onto bus at McD's we may pass it up to get home
sooner.
Bring knitting, we can leave stuff on the bus. THE BUS COMPANY
AND/OR GMKG IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOST
ARTICLES.
Can anyone volunteer to ask your LYS for a donation of a door prize?

JULY MEETING MINUTES

Linda M called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.
New Guests –The Guild had one new guest present.
Sunshine- birthdays were acknowledged.
Secretary- No changes to the minutes were noted by Guild Members from the June 2009
meeting. A motion was made by Carolyn M to accept and approve the minutes as
published in the newsletter. Karen P seconded the motion. A note there was an error
in the prizes awarded for the Bead knitting contest; $25.00 gift certificate went to Karen
K.
Treasurer-Checking account balance is $4128.08.
Programs-The August meeting will feature a Knitting/Yarn Swap, September will be the
induction of the new Guild officers and State Fair winners will be invited.
Membership-No new members
Newsletter-Reminder that all articles are due by the 20th of the month. If you would like a
copy of the past newsletter, please see Dan J.
Community Service-See newsletter for details.
Old Business-Karen L indicated that State Fair will not have any of the Guilds providing
demonstrations. If you would like to voice your concerns, please contact Karen and see will
provide you the names and numbers of the staff at State Fair to discuss.
New Business-Stitch and Pitch will be July 29th 2009 at Miller Park. The Guild will be providing
a book mark that will be places in a packet and handed out to knitters and interested people
attending the game. Stitches will be September 12, 2009. Joanie C and Ellen J
will be coordinating this event. If you are interested in attending the cost will be $30.00 (for
bus and entrance into Stitches) you can make your check out to the GMKG. The pickup points
will be 8:00am Watertown Plank Road Park and Ride, 8:15am Ryan Road Park and Ride.
Joanie indicated that they need a commitment from 40 people by 9-1-09.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 7:30pm by Kathy W and seconded by
Barbara B.
AUGUST GUILD PROGRAM
This month we will conduct a yarn swap.
Please bring your yarn in clear bags with the
name of the yarn, yardage and price marked
on the bag. Also remember to bring money to
make change. We will allow everyone time to
walk about and view each others the
merchandise, then open the floor up for sales.
Should anyone have any unwanted yarn
consider donating it to the Guild for our charity
knitting projects.
A special thank you to Mary Germain for
sharing her love of Latvian knitting during last
months meeting.

In 2006 the NATO summit was held in Riga.
268 knitters from across Latvia knit a total of
4500 pairs of mittens to give to each NATO
delegate. Each pair of mittens was different.
The site also has a link to the story of the 1000
year old mitten with history of the symbols
used in Latvian knitting.
